Our honest reflections after our first DIY international travel as a Filipino family—what worked, what surprised us, and why we’re already dreaming of the next one!
When we boarded that plane from Davao to Manila to Taiwan, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. We were excited, nervous, overwhelmed, and totally ready to make memories. (Pero sa totoo lang, may konting kaba sa dibdib haha. 😂)
Now that I’ve had time to look back, I wanted to share a few reflections, some heartfelt, some hilarious, and all 100% real.

Reflection 1: DIY Travel Is Doable (Even with a Toddler)
If there’s one thing I proved to myself on this trip, it’s this: kaya talaga mag-DIY international travel kahit may toddler ka. Yes, it takes planning. Yes, it comes with risks. But it’s also incredibly rewarding.
We booked flights and hotels ourselves. We navigated maps and MRT stations. We faced language barriers. And we survived! (With lots of funny stories to tell.)

Reflection 2: Pack for the Weather, Not the Aesthetic
Gurl, Taiwan spring humbled me. I packed pang-OOTD outfits. Reality? Jackets, socks, and layers galore.
We learned the hard way that “spring” doesn’t mean “mainit” like in PH. So yes—next time, we’re checking hourly weather and preparing accordingly. Lesson learned!

Reflection 3: Traveling with Family Is Chaotic but Magical
There were tantrums. There were late meals. There were missed stops. But there were also cuddles on train rides, shared snacks in night markets, and quiet moments in unfamiliar parks.
Traveling with your little family means letting go of perfect itineraries and just soaking in the moments. (Even the messy ones!)

Reflection 4: Culture Shock Can Be Beautiful
Taiwanese culture is quiet, disciplined, and structured. As a Filipino used to “Good morning po!” and “Ate, pahingi po tissue,” it took a few days to adjust.
But you know what? It was refreshing. Nobody rushed us. People respected space. The public transport was heaven-sent.
I also learned not to take for granted how warm and helpful Filipinos are. I love our culture even more now.
Reflection 5: Travel Sparks Growth
This trip wasn’t just about sightseeing. It changed something in me. I felt more confident. I felt braver. And most of all, I felt inspired.
Now I’m dreaming of our next destination. Korea? Japan? China? Singapore? Hongkong? Who knows!
We’re already working on new international travel packages to help other Filipino families experience this kind of magic—because I want you to feel this too. 💜
Final Words
If you’re thinking about going abroad for the first time, do it. Make mistakes. Learn from them. Cry in the MRT if you must. But go. You won’t regret it.
Travel doesn’t have to be perfect to be worth it. It just has to be real.
Love lots 💜
